ONE OF BASEBALL'S GREATEST SLUGGERS. ACHIEVEMENTS AND HONORS. INDUCTED INTO THE NATIONAL BASEBALL HALL OF FAME IN 1956. SELECTED AL MVP IN 1935 AFTER LEADING THE LEAGUE WITH 39 HOMERS AND 170 RBI. DROVE IN 183 RUNS IN 1937, ONE SHORT OF LOU GEHRIG'S 1931 LEAGUE RECORD. LED THE LEAGUE IN 1938 WITH 58 LONGBALLS. WON AL MVP HONORS IN 1940 WITH A CAREER BEST OF .340. LED THE LEAGUE WITH 41 HOMERS, 150 RBI AND 50 DOUBLES IN 1940. ENTERED THE ARMY IN 1941, INTERRUPTING HIS CAREER.
