Plaque: Throughout City's great history of League football many names have been put forward as the greatest player of all time, but two in particular continue to receive the most mentions - Peter Doherty and Colin Bell. Doherty was a key player during the 1930s and 40s, while Bell was regarded as the best player of the 60s and 70s. Bell became City's most capped player however his story was also one of tragedy. His playing career was cut short through serious injury in 1975 and, although he eventually did return to the first team, he was never quite the force he had been earlier. He was still recognised as the greatest City player of all time and, although he would never boast of his achievements, supporters recognised how great his contribution had always been.

Inscription on backdrop: Colin Bell MBE. Manchester City and England. Colin Bell is widely regarded as one of City's greatest players with tremendous skill, pace and stamina, which resulted in Assistant Manager Malcolm Allison nicknaming him 'Nijinsky' after the legendary racehorse. During his career at City he won the Division Two Championship (1966), Division One Championship (1968), FA Cup (1969), European Cup Winners' Cup (1970) and the League Cup (1970). Colin Bell made almost 500 appearances in midfield for Manchester City scoring 152 goals and in addition played 48 times for England. Colin has been inducted into the Manchester City Hall of Fame, and when Manchester City first moved to the City of Manchester Stadium in 2003, a poll of supporters voted by a huge majority to honour one of City's greatest players by renaming this stand, The Colin Bell Stand.
